Letter from the Chairman 2007
The dust had barely settled on what was a very successful games, the weather was perfect, the crowd substantial and a record entry for all events when we the committee started to plan next years event. Our first improvement will be to the parking area which will be cleared of scrub and levelled off. Next we will look at increasing our food vending facilities to include a variety of different and enticing products to interest the discerning palette. We are also looking to improve the public announcement system and will include commentary from the dance arena. We have also replaced the dance area surround with new tartan thanks to Janet Eagleton the famous kilt and sporran maker from Murthly, who has stitched together a brand new apron for our dance area .The covered areas will still be sponsored by the Taybank Hotel of Dunkeld. We are going to look at the general infrastructure of the park to make the best use of the area and make it as friendly and inviting to our spectators.
We will again have guests from our twinned games of Livermore in California to which we sent our representatives who were given tremendous reception and we look forward to welcoming their delegation to our 2007 games. This year they will present a new trophy on behalf of Livermore games to one of our heavy weight contestants for best performance on the day. We will again be giving a bottle of whisky to the furthest travelled visitor to the games, so please sign in at the secretary’s tent, you never now it could be you. There will be of course be the world famous haggis eating contest . which itself has to be seen to be believed. Sponsored by our local Dunkeld butchers.
The Blairgowrie , Rattray & District pipe band will again be playing in the square at Dunkeld at 11:45 am and the traditional march to the park will start at the north car park at 12:30 pm prompt lead by our chieftain Robert Steuart Fotheringham. We the committee look forward to welcoming you to the 2007 games and hope you are impressed enough to come back year after year and bring your friends. We are again improving the information on our web site so keep checking in for updates.
